Joe Adrian Gutierrez, 101

(1916-2018)

Joe Adrian Gutierrez, 101, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2018.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fausto and Maria Gutierrez; beloved wife, Rosa; grandson, Paul Florence and sister,  Elvira Lopez.

He is survived by his daughters, Rosemary (Robert) Lackner, Dolores Sanner, and Diana Brown; his sister, Alicia Anzaldua; his grandchildren, Robert E. Lackner, Mark Lackner, Lisa (Rusty) Remy, Chris Sanner, and Quinn Brown; his great-grandchildren, Robert S. Lackner, Claire Remy, Adrian Brown, Shane Brown and Tyler Brown.

Joe attended St. Joseph Academy. He joined the Air Force in 1941 and served overseas during World War II and was recalled in 1948 during the Berlin airlift. He loved the Air Force and served his country honorably.

His father, Fausto, had a business on the boardwalk along with other local Brownsville businesses and moved later across from the old Courthouse and eventually to Adams and 11th Street where Joe worked and learned the grocery business. He then went into real estate and owned Port City Realtor and was actively working well into his late 80's.

Joe was very involved in sports and was approved for tryouts with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team prior to joining the Air Force.

Joe and his beloved spouse, Rosa, were fun loving and loved dancing, traveling and getting together with their many longtime friends. Their daughters will always cherish the great memories of their beloved parents. Joe and Rosa were both extremely close and loving with all their grandchildren. Joe is happy now with Rosa and grandson, Paul Florence.

We want to thank Father Jose Torres from the Immaculate Conception Church for being there during our time of need. In his youth, Joe lived near the Immaculate Conception Church where he was baptized and made his First Communion. He was very active in the church.

Serving as Pallbearers: Robert H. Lackner, Robert E. Lackner, Mark Lackner, Quinn Brown, Lonnie Anzaldua, Oscar Anzaldua, and Robert S. Lackner

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Garza Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held on Friday.

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the loss of your loved one.
At a sad time as this, the Bible gives us comfort at John 5:28&29 where God promises to remember those asleep in death during the resurrection.
I hope this scripture gives you some consolation.
