Obituary

Alberto Reyna Medrano, age 77, of Harlingen, TX, went to be with the lord at 3:47 pm on
Sunday, September 12, 2021. He was born on November 27, 1943, in Brownsville, TX, to
Florentino and Refugia Medrano both who have preceded him in death. Alberto was a fierce and loving husband, devout father, grandfather, brother and brother-in-law, uncle, and loyal friend. He was notorious for talking to anyone who said hello and was willing to converse with them for minutes on end. He had a unique and infectious laugh when he was happy. Alberto grew up in South Texas, where he received his GED and enrolled in the Army Reserves when he was 18. Alberto met Irma Iruegas in Brownsville, Tx, and they quickly were married on June 21, 1963. They moved to Fort Campbell, KY, in 1965 when Alberto joined the Army full time in the 101’st Airborne Division, where he was trained as a paratrooper and traveled the world, including exotic faraway places like Okinawa and Thailand. Alberto’s passion was fishing, and he and his family joined him on countless fishing excursions on land and sea. He also enjoyed playing card games with his friends and family at any given moment. But what he was most known for was his relentless work ethic. He worked countless hours to support his immediate and extended family. He started his butcher shop in the Sagemont area of Houston, Texas, due to his love for meats in the early 80’s. From 1987-2009,he took over ownership of his mother-in-law’s, Esther Limon’s, renowned and delicious tortilla staple in the community, Limon’s Tortilleria, where they sold freshly made tortillas and barbacoa on Sundays. Alberto is survived by his loving wife of 60 years: Irma Iruegas Medrano; daughters: Brenda Medrano Valladares and Husband Stanley Valladares from San Antonio, Tx,Lisa Medrano Harbert and Husband Ted Harbert from New York, New York; and son Albert Medrano II who lives in San Francisco, CA. Great Grandchildren: Sonny Valladares, Sean Valladares Jr, Saint Valladares, Sebastian Valladares, and Skyler Glameyer, and sister Alicia Medrano. He has countless nieces, nephews, and cousins here to mention who he all loved.
