Enrique De La Cruz

Enrique De La Cruz, 68, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on December 1, 2025, peacefully at the comfort of his sister's home.
He was a longtime Brownsville resident and dedicated his life to the Brownsville Independent School District. He was a migrant worker and travelled with his family to Sandusky, Ohio to work in the fields. He knew that working in the fields was not what he wanted and decided to study hard and become a bilingual elementary teacher.
His passion was working in the classroom to help develop and mold young minds. He believed that every student could succeed in life.
He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and took a group of students while working as a teacher at Sentry Technology High School. It was a great experience for him and his students.
He loved spending time with family, especially his sister's grandchildren, Bentley and Derek. His nurturing way was when his niece was born, Marisela. He would lavish her with gifts. His favorite hobby was eating out in the best restaurants. When Joseph came along, his nephew, he treated him like the son he never had.
Enrique De La Cruz also worked other jobs in the Brownsville area before becoming a certified teacher with BISD. He worked at Ken's Pizza, Massey Ferguson and the Hygeia Company.
He was proceeded in death by his father Jose De La Cruz, his brother, Dionicio De La Cruz, and other aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory, is his mother, Natalia De La Cruz, his sister, Diana De La Cruz, his niece Marisela R. Salas (Samuel Salas III), his nephew, Joseph G. Sanchez, and his grand nephews, Bentley Flores and Derek Salas. Also, to cherish his memory is his faithful Chihuahua, Babie and his iguana, Kraken.
His service is under the care of Garza Memorial Funeral Home located at 1025 E. Jackson St.
This celebration of his life will take place this Sunday, December 14th, 2025, with visitation beginning at 5pm.
A rosary, in his honor will begin at 7pm - 8pm followed by a service of Remembrance at 8pm.
Family and friends will express their love, and admiration for Enrique De La Cruz and bid a last farewell as the service will come to an end at 9pm.
