Juan Rolando Vera, also known as “JR” and “John Roland” to friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 44 on October 6, 2021, surrounded by his family. Born November 16, 1976, in Brownsville, Texas, to Juan and Celia Vera, his zest for life, his love of family and friends, and his ability to make people laugh started at a very early age. In 1986, he became an incredible big brother to Eric Andrew Vera, a title he cherished and never took lightly. In 1994, he joined the Army National Guard and graduated class of ’95 from Simon Rivera High School. In 1997, he met the love of his life and married Aurora Vera in 1999. Two years later, he achieved his dream of starting a family of his own by becoming father to Jacob Abelardo. He completed his beautiful family in 2004 by adding his princess, Jaylyn Alessandra, to his family. Vera lived for family and loved them unconditionally – aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, he loved them beyond measure. The ultimate Dallas Cowboys fan, he never missed a game, and his love and support of “his boys” never faltered. His Catholic faith guided him through many trials and tribulations, and may God now light him on his way. The Vera Family would like to thank the medical staff at Valley Baptist Brownsville and the staff at Elara Caring Hospice.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Conrado G. and Maria Elena Vera; his maternal grandparents, Francisco R. and Maria Ignacia Olvera; and his uncles Deacon Alvino Olvera, Sgt. Abelardo Vera, and Sgt. Eligio Vera.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Avila, David Avila Jr., Manuel Cortinas Jr., Abelardo David Hernandez, Alfredo Vera Jr., Carlos Eligo Vera, Joey Vera, and Robert Vera. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vanessa Bergman, Jerry Cortinas, Daniel Garza, Ramiro Ortiz, and Thomas Rios.
