Mrs. Maria Paula (Espinoza) Rios

Maria Paula Rios, 90, of Brownsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at her residence in Brownsville.
She was born in Axtla De Terrazas San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Crescenciana Cruz Gonzalez and Juan Miguel Espinoza on January 15, 1933.
María was a simple, humbled, and religious woman with great humor; she loved gardening and colorful flowers, and her favorite color was yellow. She was a hard-working woman; if someone needed help, she was there for you and instilled those great values in her children by recruiting them to assist if required. She was an excellent cook, and her tamales were very delicious. If she happened to be sitting down, she was probably sewing something by hand or starting her day with a cup of coffee in the morning with her pan dulce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isabel Rios "Chabelo"; sons, Isabel Rios "El Chelelo" and Aaron Rios; daughter, Martha Hernandez; son-in-law, Alfonso Banda; parents, Crescenciana and Juan Miguel Espinoza; siblings, Timoteo Espinoza, Teodoro Espinoza, and Irene Espinoza.
Maria is survived by her children, Arturo Rios (Alma), Angelina Rios, Jaime Rios, Demetrio Rios (Lannett), and Francisco Rios (Lisa); brother, Aureliano Martinez; 9 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 17th, 2023, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 18th, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.Committal will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
