Maria Soledad Mendez, 80, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Originally from Mexico, Maria moved to the United States as a young woman in pursuit of a better life. She dedicated many years to the restaurant industry before finding great joy and fulfillment in her role as a greeter and cashier at Walmart. Her warm smile and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who met her.
Maria was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ramon Mendez; three sons, Ricardo Avilez, Mauro Enrique Avilez, and Mario Eduardo Mendez; and two brothers, Reymundo Lopez and Armando Lopez.
She is lovingly remembered by her five children, Adrian Avilez, Francisco Avilez, Maria Soledad Mendez, and Juan Ramon Mendez, all of Brownsville, Texas, along with Carlos Augusto Mendez of Pasadena, Texas, lovingly remember her. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Additionally, her sister, Maria De Los Angeles Martinez Trujillo, resides in Mexico, and she leaves behind numerous extended family members and cherished friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Garza Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary service at 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, followed by interment at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Maria's kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
