Mavi Torres, 84, of Brownsville, Texas, was born October 19, 1939, in Brownsville,
Texas, to Castulo and Juana (Gomez) Vasquez and passed away on Sunday,
September 8, 2024. Mavi was a very kind, loving, and compassionate person who
dedicated her life to serving others. She loved her family and friends deeply and always
put others above herself.
Mavi and her husband, Baldomero were instrumental in initiating the beloved Catholic
movement, Movimiento Familiar Cristiano, in the Rio Grande Valley. The movement
serves as the basis of the formation and education for Christian families. Mavi and
Baldomero later were elected and served as national presidents of MFC USA.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Baldomero Torres; children,
Elizabeth Torres, Jesse Torres, and Patricia (Edwin) Gorham; grandchildren, Michael
Jacob Torres, Michelle Yvette Rocha, Adrian Joel Rocha, Abigail Marie Gorham and
Emma Ladell Gorham; great-grandchildren, Jevalya Smith and Joshua Michael Torres;
sister, Norma Vasquez; sisters-in-law, Elia (Stanwood) Lehn, Gloria Vasquez, Linda
Vasquez, Maria Vasquez and Nellie Vasquez, along with numerous nieces, nephews
and friends.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Torres Rocha; father, Castulo
Vasquez and mother, Juana Gomez Vasquez; brothers, Castulo Vasquez, Jr. and his
wife, Elizabeth, Juan Vasquez and his wife, Chela, Roberto Vasquez, Leonel Vasquez,
Rene Vasquez, Noe Vasquez and Charlie Vasquez; her sisters, Minerva Mora and
Natalie Martin and her husband, Ralph; sister-in-law, Evangelina Villamor and her
husband, Guillermo Villamor.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm
Thursday, September 12th, 2024, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, September 13th, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Committal will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Marco Vasquez, Marc Mora, Eduardo Vasquez, Carlos
Guajardo, Robert Hernandez, Jr., and Joshua Torres.
