Nilda S. "Mimi" Vela, 65, of Brownsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her residence in Brownsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfonso Silva Vela, Sr. and Manuela Salinas Vela; brothers, Alfonso Vela, Jr., Rafael Vela and Jose Maria Vela; nephew, Jimmy Lee Vela.

Mrs. Vela is survived by her sons: Jose Luis Hernandez, Jr. (Latorie), and Jonathan David Hernandez (Allison); former husband/loving friend Jose Luis Hernandez, Sr.; siblings: Manuel (Graciela) Vela, Frances Vela, Guadalupe (Elizabeth) Vela, Margarita (Ramon) Ramirez, Henry Vela, Delfina Vela, Maria (Jerry) Cruz, Melchor (Christina) Vela, Sr., and Diana Vela; 6 grandchildren: Aryana Marie Hernandez, Liliana Sophia Hernandez, Joshua David Hernandez, Lyla Elise Hernandez, Melanie Hope Hernandez, and Alora Grace Hernandez.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. , Thursday April 23, 2026 with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M., at . New Life Brownsville UPC 3665 Old Hwy 77 Brownsville, Texas 78520.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday April 24, 2026 , at New Life Brownsville UPC 3665 Old Hwy 77 Brownsville, Texas 78520.

Committal will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
