Santos Vallejo, Sr., was born in Brownsville, Tx., on November 11, 1949, and passed away peacefully at his Brownsville home on August 26, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Santos was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Castillo Vallejo; mother, Enriqueta De Leon Vallejo; and his siblings, Juan Vallejo (Valentina), Pablo Vallejo, (Hortencia), Cruz Vallejo, Jose A. Sierra (Guadalupe), and Manuel Vallejo Jr. (Maria).
Santos is survived by his wife, Ana Maria Saldaña and his children, Maria E. Cantu (Hugo), Santa V. Garcia (Francisco), Gabriel Vallejo (Isabel), Jorge M. Vallejo (Rosie), Santos Vallejo, Jr., Lily Vallejo (Ruben), and his step children, Nelida S. Rodriguez, Marco A. Rodriguez, and Bryan Vasquez, as well as his 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. His brothers, Ruben Vallejo and David Vallejo (Lupita), and his sisters, Victoria (Felix), Maria (Jesus), Francisca (Jose), Esther (Geronimo), Ignacia (Ruben), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Santos worked for the Texas Highway Department for 20 years, and later worked for the Cameron County Juvenile Detention Center for 26 years. He was a loving father and grandfather. He liked drinking his cold beer and relaxing at home watching old westerns, or the Dallas Cowboys. He loved fishing, and loved his puzzles. He was a great teacher, always ready to help you fix a car, lawnmower, or anything mechanical. He gave the best advice, and told the best jokes. He loved country music, especially his beloved George Strait. He supported the Pace Vikings band, choir and JROTC, and numerous sports, all activities, his many children, step-children, and grand-children participated in. He was kind, warm-hearted, stern at times but always knew how to remain calm. He was the best father anyone could ever ask for, and he will always remain in our hearts and memories. It's not good-bye, but a see you later, Dad, Vallejo, Santos, Grandpa, Opa! Love you always!
